Fr. Frank Carroll of the St. Columban’s house in Bristol, Rhode Island recently gave a brief update of advocacy activities going on in the area. He mentioned visiting the Occupy sites in Providence, Rhode Island & Boston and shared his support for the Occupy movement. A broad range of issues are addressed there that are relevant to Catholic social teaching and to Columbans. From the divide between rich and poor, to broader issues such as climate change, wars and peace-building, the occupiers represent a large segment of society that feels they have been previously ignored by the Government. Through the Occupy movement, they have found a place to air grievances against the current direction of the country. Fr. Frank, and others in Bristol, appreciate the views of the occupiers and their mostly non-violent movement.
