In my family, holiday meals and family gatherings just aren’t complete without someone saying, “save your fork!” As the dishes are being cleared, everyone is encouraged to keep their fork. Why? The best is yet to come. Dessert is serious business with my family. Since everyone brings a dessert to our gatherings, we’ll have one turkey but seven pies, two cakes and many batches of cookies. So, we save our forks.
Lent reminds us that the best is yet to come. While we may forego dessert during Lent, we know that the hope and grace of the Resurrection will save us all. Let us all celebrate, with forks in hand, knowing that the best is indeed yet to come.
