I was talking to my father the other day about Lent. I told him I was going to add something to my life this Lenten season. I want to have a healthier lifestyle; I thought that would be beneficial to me. I then turned the conversation to my father and asked him what was he giving up or adding this Lent. Without hesitation he told me, “JOY.” I thought he just wanted more joy in his life or something along those lines. He could tell I was confused by his answer, so he explained it to me. He told me JOY stands for Jesus, others and yourself.
JOY makes perfect sense for the Lenten season. This Lent we should all try to put Jesus first. Most of the time during Lent we find ourselves looking at what we can give-up or add. Sometimes on the focus on putting Jesus first and foremost is lost in the shuffle of busy lives. This Lenten season, I will be better for putting Jesus first. I am finding myself reflecting and praying more which is something I plan to continue after Lent.
With the hustle and bustle of everyday life faith may be temporarily lost in the shuffle. JOY may not come easy to you, but I urge everyone to at least try.
