The homeless man was sitting in the usual outdoor bench.
I had met him at a previous time. He was drying some of his clothes on the sunny side of the bench.
Would you pray with me, he said, reaching out his hand.
I haven’t prayed for a while.
It was a good day for this person, suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. We joined hands and prayed to the God who reaches out in love to us all.
It was a graced moment with a man who suffers much. A man who invited me to prayer.
Thank God for the invitation from an unexpected source.
May we be open to the surprise moments, when we are called to join with our sisters and brothers in prayer and human solidarity.
