September 2014 ebulletin

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27

Dear Friends,Greetings of Peace!  This month Columbans across the world are celebrating September as Columban Month of Prayer and Action for Peace to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Peace, September 21.

In connecting our work for justice and care for creation as a path to peace, we join together with our supporters and partners in various faith and online communities throughout the month of September to shine the light of hope and love on places and in situations where the darkness of violence and exclusion prevail, as the recent intense conflicts in the Middle East remind us.In this month’s E-Bulletin, we share a list of resources for peace that have been prepared by Columbans from many regions, as well as resources from some of our partner organizations. We encourage you to join in the month by taking a moment each week to pray and act for peace, and invite others to do the same by sharing this resource list via online, print, and social media.

Justice and peace, care for creation and care for the poor, are at the heart of the Gospel and the Columban mission, and we continue to lift up our concerns for justice for immigrants, especially the unaccompanied children and their families at the U.S.-Mexico border who seek refuge and protection. We also share news of the People’s Climate March in New York, as thousands will gather at the United Nations to express their concerns for the future of our fragile earth. Your support and solidarity do make a difference, as we strive to make sure that everyone has a place at the table and no one is excluded.

We invite you to take action in faith by adding your name to the online petitions and letters linked below. We also extend the invitation to mission to those who would like to serve as Advocacy Interns in our office for the Fall and Spring semesters, as well as in Summer 2015, and to visit the U.S.-Mexico border throughout the year on our short-term immersion trips. Join us as advocates for justice as we continue the journey together, to act with justice and compassion to the most vulnerable in our midst.
