God created us to care for Creation. Genetic engineering seems to be a way to produce better food and medicines, but do we really know the long-term effects?
How can we protect ourselves and get more information on what private corporations are experimenting with and bringing into the marketplace?

I think that the government has a responsibility to force food providers to label their products clearly, and indicate whether their product is genetically engineered or not. We are finding that some “advances”, like a plant that has been genetically engineered to resist an herbicide, thus allowing farmers to kill weeds more efficiently, only ended up provoking the evolution of a super-weed, and forcing farmers to use more chemical herbicide than before. Genetic engineering needs to respect the forces of nature, and to cooperate with them, as in organic farming.
As much as I think we need change, anything involving government change isn’t going to happen (lobbyists, money, corruption, etc.). It’s going to take social change, and whatever the answer is it can’t involve higher prices or harder to find quantities.
Unfortunately, it may take a disaster of some sorts to move social practice.
