Columbans to attend vigil in Fort Benning, Georgia

| November 16, 2010 Print

Dear Friends,

Every November there is a peace vigil in Fr. Benning, Georgia which has been attended by Columban missionaries many times.  The vigil calls for the closure of the School of the Americas (formerly, now called the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation), a combat training school for Latin American soldiers which has been linked to many cases of torture and other human rights abuses in Latin America. Our missionaries have seen first hand in Chile what such training means to civilians which is why we support the closure of the institute.

This year Fr. Bob Mosher who spent more than 25 years in Chile, joined by Rosa Lee, our CVUSA volunteer and Michelle Knight our Advocacy Associate will represent Columban missionaries’ at the vigil along with thousands of others and we invite you to join our presence at the vigil by supporting our JPIC Ministry. Show your financial support,  or learn more about our JPIC Ministry.

With gratitude,

Amy Woolam Echeverria
Director, Columban Center for Advocacy and Outreach
