Long time Columban volunteer Donald J. Tesarek passed away on January 2, 2011. After his retirement from Union Pacific Railroad in 1997, Don started volunteering at the Columban office in St. Columbans, Nebraska.
Among other duties, Don planned the annual Columban golf outing. He also coordinated the Mission Education sponsored prayer/poem contest for many years. He was an avid gardener and maintained the plants in the office as well. Don’s commitment to Columban mission was inspiring, and he will be missed.
Don’s funeral Mass was on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Many Columban priests and employees attended the Mass. Don is survived by his sister Rita Biggs, many nieces, nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews and fourteen great-great nieces and nephews along with many cousins and friends.
