The month of May in the Philippines is one of the most colorful and festive months of the year. Often times, it’s a celebration of thanksgiving, a community gathering and of harvesting. For the Catholic community, it is the month of Mary, the revered mother of Jesus Christ. Every year the traditional Santa Cruzan in honor of the Blessed Mother is a common occasion to invite young women to re-enact the finding of the cross during the time of St. Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great, 300 years later after the death of Jesus. It is also a month for harvesting, of merry-making and of joyful thanksgiving to the saint of the farmers, San Isidro Labrador.
This year the Dancing for the World, the Affiliates of the Missionary Society of St. Columban in Los Angeles presents Filipiniana 2011 on May 21, 2011 at the Friendship Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA. This event will be graced by our priest missionaries, lay missionaries, affiliates, companions, families and friends of the Columban community. Fr. John Burger of the Columban Central Administration will be our guest speaker of the night. There will be drawing of raffle prizes to make the evening more enjoyable and memorable. Visitors and friends will be on their feet to enjoy ballroom music at the dance floor and there will be a surprise presentation in between. Let this evening be your night, come and join this wonderful moment that is Filipiniana, a truly Filipino cultural gathering. Please come wearing your original and authentic Filipiniana dress to win a special award. The best Filipina Dress will be crowned Miss Filipiniana 2011.
On its 7th year, the Dancing for the World continues to provide and support for the many wonderful and amazing works of the Columban Missionaries around the world including the Philippines. It started with the idea of raising funds to help the mission and at the same time to raise awareness about mission. The Dancing for the World promotes mission to those who don’t know the Columban Missionaries. Founded by Fr. Arturo Aguilar, the Region Director of the Columban Fathers in the United States and Ms. Carmencita Enriquez, Chairperson of the Dancing for the World, this group evolved into a more active promoter of the mission by helping the least fortunate of this world in countries where the Columbans are serving, like the Philippines, Peru, Chile, Taiwan, Fiji, Korea, China, Mexico, United States, Brazil, Myanmar and many others.
Your support is very important because it is God’s mission inviting us to do our part to help and give back to the community especially in places where there is a greater need of material and spiritual assistance.
