Today, Columbans continue to work around the world with the economically poor and marginalized. Following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Columbans in that region have stayed with those they serve and are assisting with the on-going relief efforts.

When rebuilding begins, Columbans will be there assisting and aiding the people. In 2010, the disastrous floods in Pakistan left thousands homeless and destroyed acres of crops.

Homelessness, hunger and illness followed the floods. Columbans in Pakistan organized medical mission teams to bring urgently needed assistance to those affected by the floods. Columbans in Pakistan continue to help the people they serve rebuild their lives, homes and livelihoods in the wake of the floods. Wherever they are needed by God’s people, Columbans answer the call to serve.

About the Columbans: The Missionary Society of St. Columban, also known as the Columban Fathers, is a Catholic missionary society that was founded in 1918 to proclaim and witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Society seeks to establish the Catholic Church where the Gospel has not been preached, help local churches evangelize their laity, promote dialogue with other faiths, and foster among all baptized people an awareness of their missionary responsibility. The Society’s U.S. headquarters is based in Bellevue, Neb., which is south of Omaha.
