Budget Concerns

July 21, 2011

ACTION ALERT

Call Congress today and voice your concern about the budget.

BACKGROUND

The inter-religious community has come together in a campaign on the Budget. Although of diverse faith traditions, all are united in the conviction that God calls us to protect the vulnerable and do justice for all those in need.

We are deeply troubled that spending cuts to vital domestic, international, and environmental programs are under consideration as part of the ongoing discussions about the debt ceiling and deficit. Those served by government programs – the sick, poor, and hungry, older adults, children and people with disabilities – should not bear the brunt of the budget-cutting burden. They have suffered enough and increasing their level of deprivation would be a terrible injustice.

Hello! My name is  [….] and I am from [….]. I am a concerned constituent of Congress member [Name] and would like to talk to him/ her about the budget.

As a person of faith, I want to urge [………] to vote against the cut of vital social programs that help those who need it the most.
