Since 1888, Heartland Alliance has worked hard to serve communities in Chicago and beyond. The organization, whose main projects include housing, health care, economic security, and legal protection for vulnerable populations, is an extremely strong resource in furthering social justice and defending human dignity. Not only does the Heartland Alliance work directly with those affected by poverty and discrimination, they have a strong focus on advocacy in order to face the root causes of such injustices. The organization also includes the IMPACT Research Center, which analyzes key issues and evaluates the effect of their programs and those of other organizations. Such rigor is vital in order for real change to occur.
From 2002 to 2009 Columban Fr. Tom Glennon worked with Heartland Alliance on a variety of projects. His work included outreach to the homeless, crisis intervention, and program assessment and evaluation. While Father Glennon is no longer in the area, Heartland Alliance continues to do excellent and compelling work.
