Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Columban Center for Advocacy and Outreach (CCAO) bi-monthly e-newsletter! Our goal is to bring updates to you concerning the social justice priorities of the Columban Fathers and our work to advocate for justice. Columban missionaries around the world work with and serve those who are poor and vulnerable. Ever mindful of Catholic Social Teaching and the “preferential option for the poor”, Columbans address immediate needs within communities and our justice and peace offices address the structures that cause the injustices encountered by the people.
At the CCAO in Washington, DC, we engage decision makers in the US government, as well as working with embassy personnel, to bring about change for justice. Our office, also, invites individuals to join us in mission by serving as interns or volunteers. This summer we have a full and busy office with 6 full-time summer interns and 1 full-time volunteer who has been with us for several months. The fruits of their work are on display in the articles below. In addition, we bring news from several areas of the country where Columbans are joining in local advocacy efforts.
We invite you to join us in our work for justice. Your letter or phone call to your Representative or Senator on any of the issues we describe will help to bring about the change we are seeking.
Please, let us know what you think of the newsletter. Being a new venture, we are eager to engage with you to make the information as accessible as possible.
