Glory to you, O Lord our God, Your love calls us to be your people. By sharing our many and diverse gifts we share in your mission. We ask you, Lord, to shape us into a community of faith. Nourish us by your word and sacraments that we may grow into the image of Jesus. Through the power of your Holy Spirit, heal us that we, in turn, may heal the wounded. Form us to be instruments of love, justice, and peace in our land, and send us to proclaim your saving work. Renew us, Lord, that we may renew the face of the earth. Amen.
Glorious Prince of the heavenly hosts and victor over rebellious spirits, be mindful of me who am so weak and sinful and yet so prone to pride and ambition. Lend me, I pray, Your powerful aid in every temptation and difficulty, and above all do not forsake me in my last struggle with the powers of evil. Amen.
Give me Yourself, O my God. Behold I love You, and if my love is too weak a thing, grant me to love You more strongly. I cannot measure my love to know how much it falls short of being sufficient, but let my soul hasten to Your embrace and never be turned away until it is hidden in the secret shelter of Your presence. This only do I know, that it is not good for me when You are not with me. I want You in my very self. All the plenty in the world which is not my God is utter want. Amen.
Dear Jesus, Help me to see the things that get in the way of loving and serving You and my neighbor. My selfishness, pride, desires for comfort and praise, are all obstacles to following You. They lead to false paths. Guide me to truly appreciate the good with which You have gifted me. Your love has made me. In turn I grow by loving. Teach me Your way. Amen – Columban Fr. John Comiskey
Dear God, I spend so much time reliving yesterday or anticipating tomorrow that I lose sight of the only time that is really mine, the present moment. You give today one moment at a time. That's all I have, all I ever will have. Give the faith which knows that each moment contains exactly what is best for me. Give the hope which trusts You enough to forget past failings and future trials. Give the love which makes each moment an anticipation of eternity with You. We ask this in the name of Jesus Who is the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen.
O merciful God, take pity on those souls who have no particular friends or intercessors to recommend them to You, who, either through the negligence of those who are alive, or through length of time are forgotten by their friends and by all. Spare them, O Lord, and remember Thine own mercy, when others forget to appeal to it. Let not the souls which Thou hast created be parted from thee, their Creator. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Lord, open our hearts to receive Your Holy Spirit. Teach us to await His coming, just as You did for Mary on the day of the Annunciation, and again on Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, when she was transformed into our Mother. Show the new generation that Your Son Jesus Christ remains always and forever the one and only Savior of the world. Help us proclaim in a loud and bold voice that He is "the way, the truth and the life." The way that leads us to our final destiny. The truth that illuminates our passage through the darkness of life and the world. The life that enriches us with profound peace. May we approach the Lord, united, radiant with His light, without somber faces, so that the whole world may know and recognize Jesus Christ living in His disciples. Amen.
Thank You, O God, for hearing my prayer and granting my request. Thank You for all the kindness You have shown me. Thank You, Father, for Your great love in giving me my life, for Your great patience in preserving me despite my sinfulness, for Your protection in the past and for the opportunity to serve and honor You in the future. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for keeping me numberless times from sin and death by the toils of Your life, the sufferings of Your Passion, and by Your victorious Resurrection. Thank You, Holy Spirit of God, for bestowing so many graces upon my soul and for having so frequently renewed Your life within me. May my life, from now on, be a sign of my gratefulness. Amen.
From the depths of my heart I thank You, Dear Lord, For Your infinite kindness in coming to me. How good You are to me! With Your most holy Mother and all the angels, I praise Your mercy and generosity toward me, A poor sinner. I thank You for nourishing my soul With Your Sacred Body and Precious Blood. I will try to show my gratitude to You In the Sacrament of Your love, By obedience to Your holy commandments, By fidelity to my duties, By kindness to my neighbor And by an earnest endeavor To become more like You in my daily conduct.
O God, bountiful in forgiving, and lovingly desirous of man's salvation, we humbly beseech Your mercy on behalf of our friends, relations and benefactors, who have passed from this world, that, through the intercession of Blessed Mary ever Virgin and all the Saints, You will permit them to come to the full participation of everlasting happiness. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry; When I have work, help me to remember the jobless; When I have a home, help me to remember those who have no home at all; When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer, And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency; bestir my compassion, and be concerned enough to help; By word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted. Amen.
Father all-powerful, your gifts of love are countless and your goodness infinite. On Thanksgiving Day we come before you with gratitude for your kindness: open our hearts to concern for our fellow men and women, so that we may share your gifts in loving service. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Oh Blessed Columban, who in your zeal to follow Christ left your homeland as a wanderer and spent your life in suffering and exile, help and protect, we humbly ask you, the missionaries of our day who have devoted their lives to preaching the Gospel throughout the world. Obtain for them, we ask you, that same wisdom and fortitude by which you overcame the dangers which beset your path, and that firm faith and ardent love which enabled you to endure gladly the privations of this life for the love of Christ. Assist and protect us, also, dear Saint Columban, so as to live for God’s glory that when our pilgrimage is over, we may share with you in the joy of our heavenly home, Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Guardian Angel, watch over those whose names you can read in my heart. Guard over them with every care and make their way easy and their labors fruitful. Dry their tears if they weep; sanctify their joys; raise their courage if they weaken; restore their hope if they lose heart, their health if they be ill, truth if they err, repentance if they fail.
O Lord, Jesus Christ, Redeemer and Saviour, forgive my sins, just as You forgave Peter's denial and those who crucified You. Count not my transgressions, but, rather, my tears of repentance. Remember not my iniquities, but, more especially, my sorrow for the offenses I have committed against You. I long to be true to Your Word, and pray that You will love me and come to make Your dwelling place within me. I promise to give You praise and glory in love and in service all the days of my life.
