Columban Parish Celebrates 150th Jubilee

 

Tsukiji Catholic Church in Tokyo, Japan is celebrating its 150th jubilee in 2024. Established in 1874 and dedicated to St. Joseph, the church has more than 450 parishioners and offers Mass in Japanese and French, and a Myanmar Mass once a month. Columban Fr. Leo Shumacher is the parish priest.

Tsukiji Church is the oldest catholic church in Tokyo and is also known as the Old Cathedral of St. Joseph.  There are more than 70 parishes in the Tokyo Diocese. Ten of the parishes were established by the Missionary Society of St. Columban.
