Fr. Rafael Ramirez, a native of Chile, is currently on mission in Myanmar (formerly Burma). He and the students of Palana Orphanage thank Columban benefactors for their prayers and generosity to the children.
Palana Orphanage School in Myanmar welcomes boys and girls from vulnerable backgrounds. Currently, the school is responsible for 120 children ranging in age from 3 to 18. Some are orphans, others have parents in jail because of substance abuse, and some come from families who don't have enough resources to care for them. The school provides a safe environment where they can develop academically in their abilities and grow into responsible Christian individuals, with a capacity to contribute to society and the church. There are 10 young adult volunteers, 3 staff members, 4 religious sisters, and a Columban priest who lives in the orphanage looking after the children.
