Freedom in Christ, Freedom to Serve

American Flag flying in front of a church

July brings reminders of freedom and independence, yet the Christian mission proclaims a deeper kind of freedom: freedom in Christ. “For freedom Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). This freedom is not for self-indulgence but for service — the freedom to love unconditionally, to forgive, and to give of ourselves for others.

Month of Mission

In the mission of Christ, freedom always leads to responsibility. We are called to use our liberty not for comfort but for compassion. Around the world, many still live under oppression, poverty, and spiritual bondage. The Church’s mission is to proclaim release to captives — whether those chains are physical, emotional, or spiritual.

As we celebrate freedom this month, let us remember that the truest liberty is found in surrender to Christ. When we live as servants of the Gospel, we bring the freedom of the Kingdom into a world longing to be free.
