When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the tablets of the Commandments, his face was radiant. It was so bright that he had to cover it with a veil. Radiant was the word I used to describe my mother's face at the moment of her death. It was not shining with light but with joy as she entered God's kingdom. It was a moment I can never forget.
Psalm 34 says, ''I sought the Lord and he answered me. Look to him and be radiant.” Matthew tells us that it was with great joy that the man sold everything he had to obtain the treasure. The parable teaches us that we too will have great joy if we make Jesus the main treasure of our lives. That is the first part of our vocation, but St. Paul tells us that there is a second part too. In chapter 8 of Romans he tells us that ''God chose us to become true images of his Son.'' So, we are not only called to make Jesus the main treasure of our lives, but we are chosen to be treasures to others as we live our faith in great joy. It is a lifelong challenge only possible if we call on the Lord's constant help. “Look to the Lord and be radiant.''
