St. Kateri Tekakwitha (1656–1680), the “Lily of the Mohawks,” was the first Native American saint. Converted to Christianity at great personal cost, she endured hardship, ridicule, and exile for her faith.
Her mission was one of quiet witness — purity of heart, steadfast devotion, and gentle courage. Living among those who rejected her new faith, she prayed constantly and offered her sufferings for others. Her holiness blossomed in humility, and her life became a bridge between cultures and peoples.
July’s warmth reminds us of Kateri’s radiant faith. She shows that holiness can flourish anywhere, even in adversity. Her mission calls us to fidelity, chastity of heart, and an unshakable love for Christ amid all trials.
