Mystical God, you led Saint John of the Cross
through the dark night of the soul to deeper union with You.
When we experience spiritual dryness and feel Your absence,
help us trust that You are purifying our hearts and drawing us closer.
Teach us that suffering and darkness can be pathways
to deeper intimacy with You.
Give us perseverance in prayer even when consolation is absent.
May we learn, like John, that sometimes we must lose everything
to gain everything in You.
Amen.
